The library is Apache-2.0: free to use in production, with no limits. We do not charge for storage or bandwidth. Your files stay in your own bucket and your metadata in your own Postgres.
Paid plans add support and priority for teams that depend on Filelayer. Every plan runs the same library, and nothing in it is held back for paying customers.
| Plan | Price | Billable file owners | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Unlimited | The full library, every feature, in production. Questions and defects go to GitHub issues. |
| Team | $99 a month per organization | Up to 5,000, across all of the organization's applications | Email support with a target of a reply within two business days. Priority on the defects you report. Security advisories before public disclosure. |
| Business | $299 a month per organization | Up to 50,000 | Everything in Team, plus a review of your file model against the adversarial suite, and a quarterly written architecture review, with a target of delivery within 10 business days of your request. |
| Enterprise | By email | More than 50,000 | Contract terms. Write to enterprise@filelayer.dev; there are no sales calls. |

What a billable file owner is
A billable file owner is a distinct owner with at least one live, ready file during a calendar month (UTC), counted per organization. You declare the number yourself, under the plan terms, by running this query against each Filelayer database on the first day of the following month and adding up the results. A person a file is shared with is not its owner and is not counted.
SELECT count(DISTINCT owner_id) AS billable_file_owners
FROM file
WHERE state <> 'pending'
AND owner_id IS NOT NULL
AND created_at < '2026-12-01T00:00:00Z'
AND (deleted_at IS NULL OR deleted_at >= '2026-11-01T00:00:00Z')
AND (expires_at IS NULL OR expires_at >= '2026-11-01T00:00:00Z');
The two dates are the first instant of the month and of the next one; the example counts November 2026.
How the paid plans work
- Prices are in US dollars and exclude taxes. You can enter your VAT number at checkout. The plans are sold by Technology Pro Bono S.L., and payments are processed by Stripe.
- Support for paying organizations is at support@filelayer.dev.
- Monthly, per organization, and you can cancel at any time; the plan ends at the end of the month you have paid for.
- Every paid service is in writing: email, written reviews and advisories. There are no calls.
- The reply time and the review delivery time are targets, not guarantees.
- Filelayer runs in your own infrastructure, so no plan carries an uptime commitment, and no plan includes a certification or a compliance attestation.
- Paying adds nothing to the library itself. If something in Filelayer is free and open source today, it stays that way.
- The full terms are at filelayer.dev/terms, and how we handle a buyer's personal data is in the privacy policy.
How much does Filelayer cost?
Nothing, to use it in production: the library is free and open source, Apache-2.0, with no limit on files, users or applications. The paid plans are for support and priority: Team at $99 a month for up to 5,000 billable file owners, Business at $299 a month for up to 50,000, and Enterprise by email above that.
